Instead of a straight double exp I just increase banbonus by one when the exp is modified.

... wait, *every* weekend is double exp?

This needs to be re-thought: it's going to punish people who play during the week and discourage them from playing Monday - Friday.

Double rewards should be something rare, if it's every weekend it's not special.

Not every weekend, but Sunday morning UK time was the first time I saw us fall below 20 users, on the other hand yesterday it rose to 74 people. Maybe if it's not a pain just applying it to bandits for a week, or making it 50% less reduction for a whole week?

As written this code would trigger every Sunday.

Double exp needs to be something special, not thing that automatic ... it removes the entire point.

Problem with not having it automatic would be it required you to activate/remove the code.

If we had it player trigger or some special date would work too.

I'd suggest tabling this for the moment.

What would be needed is a new page that Mods can access. This page would set a flag in the database that would be read by process_turn.php

This is a little beyond where we are in the code, but would be possible down the road.

I think we shouldn't table this just because we don't have additional admin features. Instead we could decide that we want only the first full weekend of the month to be double-exp. That would be both rare and predictable enough.

Would just need to modify the weekend determination code:

Code:
if( ((date("w",time())==0)&&(date("j",time())>1)&&(date("j",time())<9))||((date("w",time())==6)&&(date("j",time())<8)))
    $double_exp_weekend=1;
else $double_exp_weekend=0;


It is ugly but predictable giving double exp weekends:
2-3 March 2013,
6-7 April 2013,
4-5 May 2013,
1-2 June 2013,
6-7 July 2013,
3-4 August 2013,
7-8 September 2013,
5-6 October 2013,
2-3 November 2013,
7-8 December 2013...

After thinking about this, having an exp bonus Saturday & Sunday could be workable with some changes:

- The bonus should be for all kills, not just bandit kills (where the current code is in a conditional makes it only fire if there are more than 150 bandits on a planet)
- Make the bonus 50% instead of 100% so it's seen as less of a punishment to weekday players

I've added some other needed coding tweaks to the ticket. If these can be implemented I'll try to get this ticket out before Friday so the bonus can kick-in this weekend.

We can run this for a month and see how the players react. We can pull or tweak after that.
